I want to tell you about some virus in yahoo messenger that displays junk website link sended as a message whenever we send offline messages to someone. This one is popularly called as NSL SCHOOL VIRUS. By clicking on that message the default page of Browser will convert to that link and it cannot be modified. Without your concern offline messages will be send to your yahoo messenger friends list about nsl-school.com. To over come this problem the following steps are to be followed:
1: Close the IE browser. Log out messenger / Remove Internet Cable.
2: Enable Regedit, for this
Click Start-> Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
3: To enable task manager : (To kill the process we need to enable task manager)
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
4: Now we need to change the default page of IE though regedit.
Start>Run>Regedit
From the below locations in Regedit chage your default home page to google.com or other.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Just replace the attacker site with google.com or set it to blank page.
5: Now we need to kill the process from back end. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del
Kill the process svhost32.exe . ( may be more than one process is running.. check properly)
6: Delete svhost32.exe , svhost.exe files from Windows/ & temp/ directories. Or just search for svhost in your computer.. delete those files.
7: Go to regedit search for svhost and delete all the results you get.
Start menu > Run > Regedit >
8: Restart the computer. That’s it now you are virus free.
Other than such viruses whether it may be a worm or spyware... I will suggest you to use a good anti virus like kaspersky and Xoftspy4.22 which detect & remove them.
There is another antivirus software called Avast version 4.7 Home Edition which will help to avoid virus, worm or spyware in online. It can be downloaded from
for free. Avast free home version is perfect. You will also get a 1 yr license the moment u register and give your email there. That way you will have avast for 1 yr and can re-license it next yr the same way. It comes with autoupdate and also resident scanner.
You may also use firewall to protect yourself from such attacks in future.
